What we do

Gender Equality Advocacy and Development Initiative (GEADI) is a nonprofit organization committed to preventing all forms of Gender and Sexual Based Violence (SGBV) — with a special focus on vulnerable groups, particularly women and girls across West Africa and the African continent.

The abuse and marginalization of women and girls in Africa — and even systemic discrimination in more developed regions — is a global concern. GEADI exists to bridge this gap through targeted advocacy, community engagement, and multi-sector collaboration. We connect local, national, and international civil society efforts to raise global awareness and drive measurable change.

We work closely with key institutional partners, including:

  • National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP)

  • Ministry of Women Affairs

  • Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) through our network, WAANSA Nigeria (West African Action Network on Small Arms), where I serve as President (waansanigeria.org.ng).

Together, we restore coordinated action at community, regional, and global levels — promoting the safety of vulnerable groups (of whom women comprise the largest number globally).

GEADI’s Core Areas of Impact

POLICY & ADVOCACY

We advance policy reforms and evidence-based advocacy — especially targeting laws that excuse crimes of passion. GEADI promotes gender mainstreaming to reduce domestic, personal, and intimate partner violence.
We have observed that security agencies often treat women’s complaints less seriously, and vigilante groups remain male-dominated, leaving women exposed. Through advocacy and education, we challenge these systemic failures.

Our goal is to integrate gender perspectives into policies and development frameworks, and to foster transformative dialogue among diverse stakeholders. We actively support the enforcement and cultural acceptance of laws like the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act of 2015, which criminalizes domestic violence and harmful widowhood practices.

We also work with the Nigerian Parliament and civil society to advocate for:

  • Reserved seats for women

  • Gender equality

  • Equal pay for equal work

We believe Nigeria’s sexual violence laws are in urgent need of reform — and GEADI is committed to bridging that gap.

LEARNING & EVALUATION

We promote a rigorous culture of Design, Monitoring & Evaluation (DM&E) to generate evidence-based standards.
Our Learning & Evaluation program leads the peace-building field toward greater evaluative discipline — because the safer a society, the safer its women and vulnerable groups.
We build capacity to capture high-quality, actionable data, encourage evidence-based practices, and synthesize impact through research.

PARTNERSHIPS & CAMPAIGNS

We mobilize cross-sector momentum for peace — a key factor in women’s safety, growth, and social well-being.
GEADI’s public partnerships elevate peace-building’s profile and build broad-based public support for peaceful action. Our initiatives include:

  • Annual Peace in Nigeria Conference

  • Community Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence

  • Professional network expansion for peace-builders

  • Coalitions that drive innovation and practical solutions

We organize seminars, workshops, and awareness campaigns addressing:

  • Sexual and gender-based violence

  • Dignity in menstruation

  • Practical domestic violence prevention

These efforts help reach diverse community stakeholders — including community leaders and village heads — to promote peaceful coexistence and challenge stereotypes that limit women.

The Intersection: GEADI & WAANSA Nigeria

In Nigeria, civilian women are largely absent from armed narratives — further limited by poverty, illiteracy, stigma, lack of awareness on firearms use in imminent danger, and prohibitive licensing hurdles.
Through the West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA Nigeria) and our partnership with GEADI, we address these layered vulnerabilities — linking small arms control with gender justice, and ensuring that peace and security efforts include those most excluded from protection and decision-making.

We Find & Fund

We are in search of opportunities to help as many women as possible. We approach and fund all those who are in need.

We Educate

Today’s woman need a helpful hand and right guidance at every stage. Here’s where we take care of them like our own.

We Provide Care

We build schools for the underprivileged children so they are encouraged to attend school with their friends.

We Consult

We run small-scale schools for the underprivileged children and youth of daily wage workers for a better future.

We Build Schools

We run organizations where we employ women so they can live their dreams for themselves and their families.

We Strengthen

We believe that education, and employment gives people an inner strength to lead a better life.

New life for women, children, in a new land

We have built shelter homes in different regions so women and children can move out of undeveloped areas to live, study and work in a better environment.

A new future for exploited children

Children and youngsters who are exploited in their early days need a helping hand and support for their mental health. We take them out of this zone to give them a better life.

Bringing dreams within reach for Women

The underprivileged women do not have access to required financial help and resources needed to live the life of their dreams. We help them with everything they’ll need to live their dreams.
